The naturist cottage (gîte) is the rising formula in France: a private house or converted outbuilding, an enclosed garden where you can live nude in complete peace, and a welcome from owners who are naturists themselves. Unlike the big holiday villages, you get calm, authenticity — and often better value for money.

Where to look

Four regions concentrate most of the offer. Nouvelle-Aquitaine (Dordogne, Charente, Landes) is the historic heartland: the hinterland of the great Atlantic naturist beaches, full of renovated farmhouses and cottages with pools. Occitanie (Hérault, Tarn-et-Garonne, Gard) combines sunshine with proximity to Cap d'Agde. Provence and the Var specialise in villas with pools. What budget to expect
